We are excited to share that Dr. Susan Enfield will be joining the team at the University of Washington Center for Educational Leadership (CEL) as our new Executive Director. A respected and visionary leader, Susan brings deep expertise in educational leadership, a passion for equity, and a strong commitment to supporting school and system leaders in improving student learning.
With more than a decade of experience as a superintendent—including Washoe County School District (NV) and Highline Public Schools (WA)—Susan has led transformative efforts to create student-centered school systems. Susan began her career as a high school English and Journalism teacher and later worked as a Chief Academic Officer and interim Superintendent of Seattle Public Schools. Her leadership is guided by a belief in the power of strong instructional leadership and a deep respect for the voices of educators and students alike. As Superintendent of Highline Public Schools, Susan championed the Highline promise to ensure that every student is known by name, strength, and need, and graduates prepared for the future they choose–a promise that mirrors CEL’s vision to empower all students to create limitless futures for themselves, their families, their communities, and the world.
As CEL enters our next chapter, Susan’s vision aligns powerfully with our mission: to partner with courageous leaders in classrooms, schools, and systems to ensure all students are happy and proud by creating rigorous teaching, learning, and leading. She understands the power of instructional leadership and believes that by investing in educators, we create the conditions for every student to thrive.
