Dr. Joanna Michelson is senior director of programs at the Center for Educational Leadership (CEL) where she leads and guides the field team and CEL’s professional learning offerings. Joanna believes in the critical role of teachers and leaders in creating schools where all students can thrive and learn about who they are and are becoming. She is inspired when learning alongside CEL’s school and district partners and loves getting to listen to students directly. Joanna began her career as a 6th-grade teacher in Brooklyn, New York, and then became a Seattle-based middle school language arts teacher, secondary literacy coach, and consultant for CEL. When she’s not working, it’s a safe bet that Joanna is outside running, biking, or hiking around the beautiful state of Washington. She lives in Seattle with her wife.
