Greg Sommers serves as the chief impact officer for the University of Washington Center for Educational Leadership. Sommers has served as a strategy advisor to nonprofit, for-profit, and philanthropic organizations seeking increased impact on public education outcomes. Previously, he was managing director of strategy and programs for the Bezos Family Foundation, leading grant partnerships and foundation programs to transform adolescent student learning experiences. Before that, Sommers spent more than 11 years at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation funding initiatives to improve U.S. K-12 student outcomes. He also has served as a director at New American Schools and began his career in education teaching high school and middle school students in the Fairfax County (Va.) Public Schools. Sommers received a bachelor’s degree in history and Master of Teaching degree at the University of Virginia, and he earned his Master of Business Administration degree from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. He is a Pahara-Aspen Education Fellow.
